The White Sands Table was inspired by our visit to White Sands National Monument, which was one stop of many on a 3-week road trip across the country. It is such a vast landscape of desert dunes that seem to be far out of place. My wife and I stayed long enough to to watch the sun go down. The sky was gold and lilac against the white sand.
The table is constructed of individually cut 1x4" pine (stained) and bonded together. The idea was to keep with a topographical-like feel rather than a sculpture. The result exceeded my expectations. A glass top hovers above which helps to create even more depth to the surface of the dunes.
Altogether there are 40 layers of 1x4" bonded together. The glass top is a 1/2" thick and the table features uncoated hair-pin legs.
